1995 Bathurst Holden VR Commodore Mark Skaife and Jim Richards

B180401D $189

Biante – 1/18 Scale – Holden VR Commodore #1 Skaife/Richards 1995 Tooheys 1000 Diecast Scale Model Replica
Mark Skaife and Jim Richards’ assault on the 1995 Tooheys 1000 at Bathurst was perhaps best described as ‘the one that got away’.
Skaife qualified the #1 VR Commodore second fastest in the Top 10 Shootout on Saturday morning, beaten to pole position by the man who would later be his team-mate at HRT – Craig Lowndes.
Come race morning and the team sprung something of a surprise on their rivals as Richards was behind the wheel to start the race. Many had assumed Skaife would line-up to start the 1000-kilometre event, but the expat Kiwi was more than up to the job despite a bad season on the score sheet.
Richards and Lowndes were beaten from the front row of the grid by Wayne Gardner’s Coke Commodore. Richards settled into a comfortable second place and took just six laps to work his way into the lead. From there the #1 Holden eased away from the former world motorcycle champion.
Such was the superior fuel economy of the Skaife/Richards car it would not pit for fuel until lap 38, meaning that they were within a few Safety Car laps of being able to do the race on just three pit stops – a sizeable advantage.
Skaife emerged from pit lane with nearly half a minute back to Dick Johnson and he had Perkins’ co driver Russell Ingall (desperately trying to get back on the lead lap) formed up behind him when the first Safety Car came out on lap 47.

When the race restarted, Skaife simply blazed away from the field. But on lap 64 he limped to the pits. The tailshaft had snapped, breaking the back of the gearbox and punching a hole in the floor.
They were out. History would show that Perkins and Ingall would go on to a famous victory, but Bathurst 1995 was the one that got away for Richards and Skaife.

1:18 Diecast Model

WINNER : 1997 ATCC, Round 8 (Barbagallo Raceway)
On 29th May 1997, following Round 6 of the ten round 1997 Championship series, Peter Brock stunned fans in announcing his forthcoming retirement from full-time motor racing. The crowds came out in force at the following Lakeside round to wish Peter a fond farewell.
Celebrations were even grander a few weeks later at Round 8 at Wanneroo (Barbagallo Raceway), where Peter Brock triumphed over variable weather conditions and other incidents to pick up two thirds and a second in the three races and thereby win the round. The result was all the more remarkable for Brocky having recovered from a first lap excursion in race three that had dropped him back to tenth position.
His ATCC career came to an appropriately legendary end at Round 10 at Oran Park. Brocky out-qualified all others for pole position and followed that up with a win in race one and a second placing in race two. Tyre dramas in race three prevented a fairy-tale ending for Peter Brock … but, hey … that’s motor racing !

1980 Sandown 400 3rd Place Allan Moffat

1980 Sandown 400 3rd Place Allan Moffat

18310 $199

This model is limited  to 1000 and features fully opening doors, bonnet and boot.

This model was released in 2011 and was originally priced at $230.

In 1980, Allan Moffat looked as though he would not be competing in the Australian Touring Car Championship as the attempted homologation of the Mazda RX7 had fallen through appearing to leave him without a drive for Sandown and Bathurst.

A deal was struck and then came the shock announcement that for the race, Moffat would be driving the No.25 Holden Dealer Team VC Commodore, the sister car to the HDT No.05 VC Commodore of Peter Brock.

The 1980 Hang Ten 400 was an endurance race for Group C Touring Cars staged at the Sandown Circuit and the event was marked by the fact it was only the second time Moffat had driven a Holden and he was in the same team as his arch rival, Peter Brock.

Brock and Moffat made it an all HDT front row on the grid. Brock won the start and Moffat remained in second place until lap 42 when after sliding wide, he hit a barrier and had to pit. After rejoining the race he pitted again to have some loose wheel nuts tightened. Allan was a lap down, but worked his way through the field to eventually finishing the race in third place.

Allan Moffat performed admirably as a guest driver in a well deserved 3rd place finish on a podium shared by only Holden VC Commodore drivers.
